Just occurred to me that Iran's hand in negotiations etc. going forward is extra weak because of their near total closure of the Strait of Hormuz is so overt (and so far worse than before the claimed cease fire).
Lots of people watch this closely because it has such huge economic effects, so before the war is was useful to know how much crude and LNG was exiting, where empty tankers were going to be refilled, etc. Those same mechanisms are informing us of what's (not) transiting now.
And this is something that affects the entire rest of the world due to pricing with that so much supply having been cut off. Asian countries are scrambling for fuel, supply chain issues are closing down plastics plants, etc. etc.
As many have been noting, except for pricing it's not such a big issue for the US because we net export this stuff. We don't have to be in a huge hurry get ships moving again. And as I've noted, with the GOPe deliberately throwing the 2026 election like they did in 2018 (although the Senate majority is probably safe), Trump has "more flexibility" to do something unpopular.
Compare to credible Kuwaiti claims they continue to get pounded (perhaps from a proxy in Iraq?). Or the reports of Iran making ludicrous toll method demands to use cryptocurrency and/or Chinese institutions and the yuan (companies are not set up to do this, also the yuan in general).
Not tangible like a VLCC with two million barrels of crude.
