Iran's filtering is moving from blocking roads to tagging travelers.
Filterwatch's September report describes it plainly: mandatory visual ID checks at the domain registry, end-user identity registration for international access on domestic servers, and SIM cards of Instagram businesses cut off until they "clean up" content. Their phrase is an "identity–phone–IP" chain. Meanwhile VPNs keep failing, and a "Virtual Space Regulation" bill is back on the table.
From where I sit in El Salvador, that's exactly why I keep teaching the boring parts in Farsi: write your seed by hand, test-restore it, verify your wallet download, use usernames instead of phone numbers. Things that still work when the network is hostile and your identity is the leash.
Two Nostr folks gave me a great checklist this week for teaching restore drills (word 12 carries the checksum, 1 in 16 wrong words still "works", no Persian BIP39 list so keep Latin letters). It's now a Farsi lesson.
Question for you: when people can't reach Google Play or GitHub, how do you get a trustworthy wallet APK and its signature into their hands? What has actually worked in your community?
