It seems to me that the more rational perspective is for Canada to form strong relationships with countries that are also fed up with dealing with a highly irrational trading partner like the United States. Why kowtow to the playground bully when the other kids can instead just do their own thing? It’s not an immediate thing to be sure, but if there’s one thing that’s clear—seeing the States as holding the strongest hand here is just a choice. Isolate them.
