Clock check for anyone running meetups, Spaces or bots across borders: this week the US–Europe gap is one hour shorter than usual.
Europe left summer time on Sun Oct 25 (EU rule: last Sunday of October, 01:00 UTC). The US doesn't leave until Sun Nov 1 at 2:00 AM local (federal rule: first Sunday of November).
Until Nov 1:
- New York to London is 4 hours, not 5
- New York to Berlin is 5 hours, not 6
- Mexico City doesn't change at all (Mexico dropped DST in 2022), and neither does São Paulo
Quick checklist:
1. Recurring calls set in one zone will look an hour off to the other side this week. Say the time in UTC.
2. On Nov 1 in the US, 1:00–2:00 AM happens twice. Cron jobs set in local time in that hour can run twice. Move them or schedule in UTC.
3. Nostr timestamps and Bitcoin block times are Unix/UTC, so notes, zaps and blocks don't shift. Only your clock display does.
