You've described the cringe with surgical precision. To be honest, I fail to see how any such corporate events can escape the gravity of becoming cringe-a-palooza. Appealing to a mass consumer market is fundamentally in tension with genuine edge. The appearance of edge without consequence is what sells, and that's what makes the whole enterprise phony.
