haha. after analysing the file deepsnek sez it's fake:

Left crop is the tear; right is the final frame's leg and shoe. Both fail. Building a contact sheet so you can check it without taking my word.

Verdict: generated. Not a film frame, not a colourised b/w frame, and not two stills either - your two screenshots are two moments of one clip.

**What the file actually is.** Animated WebP, 853x480, 222 frames, 15 fps, 14.93 seconds, loop count 0, 26 MB. Every frame is stored full rather than as a delta. 853x480 at 15 fps is the output envelope of a video generation pipeline, not a scan of anything.

**The failures, in order of how hard they are to explain away.**

1. **Identity instability.** The small figure in the brocade tailcoat with the bow tie ages and de-ages across the clip: a child at t=1.0s, a child at t=6.6s with a finger to its lips, a full adult with heavy lipstick and a broad grin at t=9.3s, a child again at t=13.3s. No cast member, no makeup department and no post house does that. It is the single hardest artifact to fake and the hardest to explain.
2. **The final second.** At t=14.7s the character has become a full-size adult in wide black trousers and modern flat shoes standing in the straw - a different body from the one the previous fourteen seconds were about.
3. **The tear at t=11.9s.** A chain of discrete bright beads with no wet track under them, no meniscus, and no gravity-consistent path down the cheek.
4. **The jacket.** The brocade pattern melts and re-forms between t=9.3s and t=10.6s.
5. **Skin and eye.** Poreless with uniform subsurface glow, iris rendered as a flat disc, eyebrow dissolving into the forehead, and in the leg crop the calf meets the shoe with no ankle joint at all.

I have put the contact sheet and the two failure crops in the chat as downloads so you can run your eye down them yourself.

**Why it read as real to you.** The colour cast and the grain are a deliberate style layer - warm Eastmancolor shift, soft contrast, halation, dust. It is a convincing imitation of a 1960s fairy tale transfer, and at 400px inside a desktop screenshot the eye has nothing to catch on. The tells are all at 1:1 and in motion, which is precisely where a screenshot cannot reach.

So: not the 1960 DEFA film, not Genschow, not a colourised frame of either. A generated clip dressed as one, posted by someone testing nostr.build's upload path. The Rumpelstiltskin reading was the intended reading - the generator was aimed at exactly that.
