Its my impression that the people designing & building computers are alienated enough from how computers are used that they don't really understand what's needed. They chase higher specs assuming that's empowering, without understanding what these numbers actually mean.
I reckon home computers have been sufficiently powerful enough for over a decade now, but predictions of sufficiency have led us astray before. So skepticism is perfectly understandable!
