Reading and thinking about this has sparked a bit of a realization for me. I think there is a gap in the fundamental understanding of what morals and values are. I think for many on the right, "morals & values" are just rules they were told they must follow, and if they don't, they would be punished. There's no deeper reasoning built on introspection, empathy, patience, or kindness. They also probably learned early on that they won't be punished if they aren't caught.
