"content": "My impulse buy of the month: an 1829 octavo, minted by the free state of Guanajuato (my family's home state).\n\nThis was working people's coin. Also known as a tlaco, it was one-eighth of a silver real. At the time, it bought someone a basic meal of beans and tortillas. Not far from what a Mission rice and bean burrito costs today.\n\nThe coin is worn and costed me less than $25. A modest piece that reminds me of what my family lived through.\n\n#Mexico #Guanajuato #WorkingClass #coin\nhttps://social.sanfranciscan.org/media/2fb4d8df-49ac-4cce-92c9-29d841e12f0b/octavo%20gto%20-%20Copy.jpg\nhttps://social.sanfranciscan.org/media/3ff81379-4b70-4d9b-bb82-c2e954ba14a9/octavo%20gto%202%20-%20Copy.jpg\n",
