gm ☕️

switched my workout method a few weeks ago to a mike mentzer style heavy duty/high intensity training style.

the concept is focused on grow stimulus and a lot of recovery. rather than my normal 2 hour training routine, i spend maybe 30min to an hour lifting as hard and heavy as i can physically take the weight, then rest for roughly 48 to 72 hours before the next session. so that brings my gym time to about 2 to 3 times a week.

mentzer’s philosophy behind it is that the grow and development happen during recovery. that the body adapts to stress factors as a way to protect itself, so bringing the work to absolute failure triggers the body to adapt to the threat being simulated during the workout.

its an interesting concept. efficient. i dont know if truly effective.

with so much rest between training sessions, the test if it works or not is that you are getting stronger. If youre able to do one more rep than before, or you can increase the weight even by a little bit, its working.

even though the lift volume is lower, the tracking and quality of the work is higher.

and it fits my current life style as a dad.
