Today is the 110th anniversary of the birth of Jane Jacobs, the writer and activist who is celebrated for her writings and campaigns for a human scaled urbanism.

What's less known about her is that in her later years she published a book, "Dark Age Ahead", which predicted a new Dark Age which she characterised as a mass amnesia where even the memory of what was lost is lost.

Her arguments seem all too familiar today.
