Every so often I recall a real-life example of why LA STORY was so funny because it’s true.
We were chatting with friends in the lobby of the Directors Guild—there for a screening circa 1990—when my brother took a glass of cola from a passing tray, absentmindedly took a sip and then startled everyone by spewing it out.
‘IT’S REAL COKE!’ he exclaimed in confused shock.
In a world where no one could conceive of anything but Diet Coke, everyone literally gasped.
