I don't know what I would have done. Maybe press charges? If that person is already hurting people, then extreme intervention is required. I'd hate for it to be through our harsh justice system, but I'd probably keep thinking "what if he severely injured or killed someone next time?"
On the other hand, maybe pressing charges would just make it worse. Really hard choice.
