My sister always claims that half the reason she flew up the promotion ladder at her union is that she never planted her fleg in any one political camp, and when she finally did, she didn't bring it into the workplace. Unlike many of her colleagues she didn't have a stream of pissed off people and burnt bridges behind her. So it might be worth baring in mind for anyone thinking that the activist route automatically leads upwards.
