Trump supporters are coming from a place of intolerance and nastiness. That is not comparable.
And while your interest may be in forcing people to reduce this trolley problem to its simplest form and solving it in the rational manner, I think the focus should be on fixing bigger problems. Even if we look no deeper than the Democrats' loss of support, calling out the abstaining voters isn't the solution to that and is likely to exacerbate both their dissatisfaction and the Democratic Party's commitment to keep making the same mistakes.
To get Trump and those like him out of power, coddling their own Democratic support base and acknowledging need for improvement is exactly what the Democratic Party needs to be doing. Sometimes results take priority over being right.
