I'm a totally blind user and developer, and unfortunately, many things you named (Matrix, Linux) are either completely inaccessible or their accessibility is flaky or simply not enough to work. What does it mean in practice?
In practice it means, that not only can't I use that at home, I can't use that for work (hence even less jobs available to me, given that not many people hire blind individuals), in common places, when studying, and so on, and so forth.
Linux for example is a whole operating system, and lots of software are either inexistent, immature or again, absolutely inaccessible for some categories of users like blind people.
So yes, sorry, but "unfit for purpose" is a correct phrase here.
