After getting bit one year by a particularly small campsite, we walked the entire place so we could find and reserve a better campsite for next year.
We found one site that was perfect - it was just off a loop around a field providing a nice view of the night sky, set back from the road providing a bit of privacy and quiet from people entering and leaving, and quite large.
The next year we called up the campground to book it, and it was already claimed for the week we were traveling. We asked them how far out they started taking bookings, and they said they opened up reservations for a given month a year in advance.
From then on, august 1st every year at 8AM, I would call the campground and book site number 8 for the week of our vacation the *next* summer.
