Not-so-fun-fact about our BND here in Germany: It was founded from the "Organisation Gehlen". Mr Gehlen was a spy of the Wehrmacht, in charge of the department "Fremde Heere Ost". He was allowed to fill the ranks of his BND with many other leading nazi perpetrators. His organisation had a recruitment scheme where former nazi networks were hired entirely. Gehlen was sceptical about applications from outsiders. Cover-up of their nazi pasts has been offered as an incentive to the hired ones.
Whoa. Retired head of the German BND (the country's lead intelligence agency) arrested for allegedly selling classified information to an unspecified foreign government. It appears have been quite the enterprise, involving his purchasing documents from a former underling.
Apparently he was found out because he was in some way caught up in an unrelated kidnapping scheme. Wild.
