7. What do you think is the most critical element in storytelling?
The story. You need to have a coherent plot that tells a story. The rest is just window dressing… critically important window dressing, mind you, and the quality of a narrative depends strongly on the clothes it’s dressed in, but it all hangs on the frame of the plot.
It doesn’t have to be an earth-shaking plot that changes the world, or even the characters, but there needs to be something that starts *here* and goes to *there*, narratively speaking – else you’re not telling a story, just some random vignettes about some characters.
