PostMedia is a Canadian news company that has been two-thirds owned since 2016 by a US private equity firm known for its close ties with the Republican Party.
The National Post was founded by Conrad Black (who used to control the company that also published The Daily Telegraph in the UK, the Chicago Sun-Times in the US, and the Jerusalem Post in Israel).
Conrad Black was convicted of fraud in 2007 in the US and in 2019 his pal Donald Trump granted him a full federal pardon.
Conrad Black is married to Barbara Amiel who wrote often in Canada’s Maclean’s magazine until 2015.
In her 2020 memoir she said "the only revenge would be to see our persecutors guillotined. I have worked out 1,001 ways to see them die, beginning with injecting them with the ebola virus and watching."
All this to say, that the National Post has been shit since the beginning and it’s simply saying all the right-wing stuff out loud now because the fascists feel emboldened.
Canada is so entwined with the US.
Buying “Canadian” often means also buying from the US. So much of Canadian news and media is partly or wholly owned by US companies and they are nearly all Republican bootlickers and often simpatico with the orange fascist in the US Presidential seat.
