What has been said between the CIA director and his .ru counterparts is, up to a point, irrelevant. The real decisions are made at the Trump/Putin level. Period.
If Putin wants to go to war with Europe and NATO, he will. He is in such a bad position on (and in) Ukraine that all he has left is what we French people call 'la fuite en avant'.
