- I have a devout Catholic grandmother, who didn't give me too hard a time about leaving Christianity, but was visibly disappointed.
The way I explained it to her, was that I would let no man stand between me and God - not even a priest.
She's a sweet old lady, so I didn't want to insult her and left this part out: I wouldn't let a Messiah stand between me and God either.
God can judge me for that, and I'll submit to his judgement. So I just strive to serve well until then. 🥃
