I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as WEBM, is in fact, VP9/Opus, or as I've recently taken to calling it, VP9 plus Opus. WEBM is not a video/audio format unto itself, but rather a container of a fully functioning VP9 video system with the Opus audio codec as defined by Google and the Internet Engineering Task Force.

Many computer users play VP9 video every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of VP9 which is widely used today is often called WEBM, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the VP9 video format, developed by Google.

There really is a WEBM, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. WEBM is the container: the bit that holds the audio and video codecs as one file. The container is an essential part of an audio/video format, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of containing audio/video codecs in one package. WEBM is normally used in combinyation with the VP9 video codec: the whole format is basically VP9 with Opus added, or VP9/Opus. All the so-called WEBM files are really just VP9/Opus!
