If you transported someone from, say, 1940 to today, what technological change would impressive them the most right away? Many people would answer smartphones, Internet, etc., but I don't think so. From 1940, they wouldn't have backgrounds to immediately appreciate those.
I think microwave ovens would absolutely amaze them. It would be like genuine magic.
