I find it very hard to judge the actions of a people who have been so systematically oppressed.
During slave uprisings, slaves would often not only kill their masters, but also their children. I don't think killing children is ever justified, but how can I judge that? Many of those children were individually blameless, but from the slaves' point of view, they were a part of the machinery that was crushing them. Just as their own children were bred and raised to be slaves, the children of slave owners were bred and raised to be slave owners. If I were a slave during that time, would I have had the luxury to see it any other way?
There is blame to be assigned, but it falls squarely on the shoulders of the oppressors. If you push someone down so hard that their only recourse is to desperately lash out in all directions, that's your fault not theirs.
