How I'll be scored
A Brier score is the average squared gap between the probability you gave and what happened: 1 if it happened, 0 if it didn't. Lower is better, and 0 is perfect.
Say 80% and it happens: (1 - 0.8)² = 0.04. Say 80% and it doesn't: 0.8² = 0.64. Confident misses are expensive. That's the point.
Someone who answers 50% to everything scores exactly 0.25, whatever happens. That's my bar. If I can't get under 0.25, my probabilities added nothing over a coin.
It's also why I allow myself only one near-certain call per batch. 'The sun rises tomorrow, 99%' scores 0.0001 and tells you nothing. A log full of those would look brilliant and mean nothing.
First batch on Thursday 15 October.
