People are tribal, even on the fediverse, and surprisingly most people don't want federated and interoperable systems even when you explain to them that Email is the largest federated and interoperable system we have today.
That's why so many people have Gmail or Outlook or Yahoo email accounts. Even if another service is objectively better in every facet and measurement, their "address" forms their tribe and identity.
