My daughter's phone is managed with Family Link, and we've never had a problem.
When she wants an app, we approve it, and it installs. She has Among Us, in fact.
And she's 14. We decided to extend the control past her turning 13. But, when she turned 13, it gave us the option to convert her account to a standard Google account, in which case, her phone would continue to work the same, but no longer managed by us.
Same as if I'd had a work account managing my phone, and then I removed the work account. It just no longer manages it.
