There's many other factors, of course – reactionary attempts to kick back by mixing in "realism" (of which most cannot manage anything but the shallowest pastiche, having never drilled as their predecessors did), Diversity Style, outright resentment of beauty, social factors selecting for those who pick up the stylus in the first place... but I've deliberately put all those aside and considered the artists who seem to be enjoying themselves.

It's in honest expression – both of creation and of consumption – that a people express themselves and push styles accordingly, and where American artists on average go with the style they're adopting is FAT and WIDE.
