When I was much younger, around 1981, I went to Berlin. First time on my own.
On my first day, immediately upon leaving Bahnhof Zoo, even before checking in to Hotel Christine in the Uhlandstraße, I set out to visit Loretta's Garden specifically to have a famed Berliner Weisse (white beer).
My German was okay-ish but I had a severe stutter so I was quite nervous, and had rehearsed the conversation a dozen times in my head: "Ich möchte gern eine Berliner Weiße haben" and some emergency variants for if they wouldn't understand immediately.
So I went up to the counter and managed to speak the above phrase, but I was NOT prepared for the response. They immediately shot back "Rot oder Grün?". Of course being asked for a color when ordering white beer threw me off completely...
It turned out that the beer itself is quite tasteless so they usualy (always) put some syrup in it. I think I chose green.
