We had a pair of great horned owls perching in a large fir tree in the local city park for a few weeks this summer. It was pretty thrilling to just stand under the tree and listen to them! I sometimes hear them at my rural property, but that is less desired: they ruthlessly kill the barn owls, and the barn owls are what really keep the rodent population in check.
