For the longest time kids skateboarded in the school parking lots, especially the Hickory Hill Middle School parking lot, because it had three levels and stairs leading up from them that you could practice firecrackers on.
Safety-conscious parents made a skate park with fancy #new ramps, the works... which BMX bikers, rollerbladers, and even trad roller skaters patronized. But the skateboarders stuck to their old haunts. A real-life challenge beats an artificial one.
