You know you have fucked up when you initiate one of the most developer-loved projects in the world but then some of those developers fork the source and volunteer a TON of their time not just enhancing and maintaining the code but doing the human interpersonal work of defining an equitable governance structure and how to work together efficiently and by the way you are not invited to their new party
I am inspired by the growing number of anti-fascist, thoughtfully organized HUMAN groups that happen to collaborate on technology things (web frameworks, Mastodon instances, privacy-respecting mapping tools…) — it feels like a slow acknowledgement that everything is political, that we can’t any more just tinker with web/tech and pretend politics are a separate thing for someone and somewhere else, that the values must be made explicit and baked into the structure from the start
Also I just always love really clear writing (on any subject), and this is very clear 💪
There have been a few questions on how we're managing the Rails fork project
We now have a public facing explanation of our governance policies as well as a list of our contributors
