In many Romance languages, one way of saying “my name is” translates to “I call myself”:

Italian ‘mi chiamo’
Spanish ‘me llamo’
Portuguese ‘chamo-me’ / ‘me chamo’

These verbs all stem from Latin ‘clāmō’. At first glance, cl- changed in very different ways. However, it all started with one common change.

My new infographic tells you all about this interesting evolution.

In my free Patreon post, you can listen to ‘clamō’ and ‘plēnum’ evolving through the ages. Link in bio.
