yup, speed. They cover the 6 nm in under 10 min. Also they require next to no infrastructure at either end since they just push up onto the beach. A small waiting room and a fence is all they have.
This is the last line in Europe that I'm aware of after the much bigger Channel operation between Dover and Boulogne shut down.
