i can weigh in a bit lol. Sanskrit historically was a Brahmin language and other castes were barred from learning the language, used to maintain brahmin supremacy. even now, while other folks are now allowed to learn sanskrit because of nationalism, brahmins can act as priests and chant sanskrit shloks in other people's pujas and get paid for it, and societally only they get to do this.
