I think a lot of us end up kind of defenseless because of this gaslighting. We don't know when other people will be on our side & agree that someone was trying to hurt us & when they won't, & we don't even feel sure in our own minds. We don't trust our minds. We've been told not to.

We learn never to trust ourselves & just end up leaving ourselves open to people's hostility or unkindness because we have been told so many times that we are wrong when we try to point out someone's cruelty.
