The never-ending job-search grind has been getting me down. It's made worse by uni mergers, major parties jumping on the migration cut bandwagon, and the general death by 1000 cuts of Australian academia.
But I look at where I came from, and it's just so exceedingly unlikely that a disadvantaged kid from a remote community would get to have the opportunities I've had. So, as a statistical anomaly, I'm happy to still be here. Despite all this (waves hands at everything) I'd quite like to keep being here. Someone has to rep the poor kids from the bush in the universities, there aren't many of us!
