I was part of a generation of late-GenX kids who all ran bulletin board systems out of our bedrooms. Older PCs cast off by elders sitting around doing very little with their 20MB hard drives at 2AM but calling one another up and forwarding packets of messages around the 206 area code in a vast mesh.
It was a glorious time to explore and play and write and build new things and connect to one another.
