Cycling around Winschoten and its villa suburb called Blauwe Stad (a failed attempt to construct an actual city/community) I spotted this statue of Sicco Mansholt.

Mostly responsible for the Common Agricultural Policy he is one of the founding people of the #EEG and what the early #EuropeanUnion would become.

As the CAP became a monster he spoke out against, he was hated by fellow (Dutch) farmers. In the early 1990s his name was still associated with "hates farmers" by my farming family.
