What's equally alarming: Levy names no Jewish passenger who objected or intervened in any meaningful way in either attack. If anyone in the education system ever wants to teach Israeli kids what it was like to be Jewish in 1930s #Germany, there's plenty of material here.
I was once on a bus in Jerusalem when a Palestinian man who had been forced off the bus was later reported to the police as a troublemaker by people who sat behind me. He did nothing. I called one of the radio stations and alerted a reporter that I was an eyewitness. The guy who made up the lie, I later realized, was a relative of mine I didn't recognize, because I hadn't seen him since we were children.
What I'm trying to say is that Israeli society was and is violent. It's not a new phenomenon, but it is more vile and public than ever before. The victims are not only Palestinians but also anyone who isn't in line with the fascist populist narrative the current regime has shaped.
