Urgrading is the same for me and a huge stress. It costs days. I had to do it sometimes to resolve in a brute force manner (and do it and hope manner) complex issues about multipe dependencies that were needed to install in newest version, or updated packages, and while it solved those problems so far as intended it also mangles so much. I have locked down many dependencies which are then untouched by upgrading. Also I upgrade individual packages wherever possible to skip some agony.
