Yanow, I read a lot because I'm a huge nerd. One of my topics of interest is the origin of religions. How they morph and change over time. It fascinates me. Mostly, I think because my mother is one of these ignorant evangelical "born again" bible beater freakazoids. I was forced to grow up in the middle of all that crazy.
Sometime after my son was born, she was blabbering her usual religious nonsense and mentioned "El Shaddai". I responded to her with..."OH yeah! He was Yahweh's dad! There's like a whole pantheon of those guys! Polytheism out the wazoo! Hilariously...his statue was sometimes a golden bull. Omg, like the whole golden calf thing in the desert with Moses and stuff. I think they were trying for Ba'al, who was Yahweh's brother..."
She turned about 14 shades of red and stopped talking.
