OPNsense 24.7.4_1
Whoever decided to change the dashboard chart/graph libs and change the reasonable metrics info tables from useful to garbage... clearly this was a terrible idea that should never have been forced upon the user community. It looks like a child's toy instead of the once useful set of charts and specs/stats.
I''ve been using OPNsense since the split from PFsense, have loved its features and potential and its community, but over the last few releases there have been too many negatively impactful changes which indicate very concerning decision making at the top. If it weren't already setup at several critical points in my homelab and colo, then I'd never choose this product.
While having a GUI for a security appliance is nice and convenient sometimes, this is just a waste of time anymore... Even writing this post makes me sad because I recognize that nothing positive will come of it - sputtering into the wind of internet commentary.
Guess it's time to dust off my BSD-RP build system and generate an installer, spend part of the weekend fork-lifting it into a replacement for OPNsense, validate ALL of the pf rules, and convert service configs from OPNsense' XML to a reasonable JSON or UCI template format... etc etc...
Sadness.
