I'm hearing reports that academic publishers
… don't pay editors
… don't pay authors — sometimes they *charge* them
… don't pay peer reviewers
… outsource proofreading (poorly)
… charge libraries millions
… drive small presses out of business
I'm sure they'll use all this power to defend the intellectual integrity of the content against the only monopolist with more power than them.
After all, they invest so much in _ideas_ 🫠
