No Open Source ideologist ever expected that once we got LLMs, we'd have the power to reverse-engineer any proprietary software and make it FOSS. It's a historic moment for all of us, really. What an incredible time to be alive! 🚀😎
LLMs are a huge (R)evolution for open source. We live in a time when we have the power to start competing with proprietary software. Now creating an alternative to closed-source software costs some bucks and a little time, instead of years of free volunteer programmers developing projects in their spare time.
We live in a wonderful FOSS era, something I'd say no FOSS ideologist could have dreamed of. So many stories of people creating full proprietary alternatives using AI. Wow!
Yes, for vibe coding, LLM code quality still isn't great, but they are rapidly evolving, and right now, if you use LLMs properly, you have more power than ever before.
Also funny to see currently a lot of videos on CSPs show people adding full detailed Minecraft mechanics into random games such as Elden Ring, GTA V, RDR 2, etc.
