In answer to the OP - yes anarchism - as a whole or part of a description is absolutely genuine, but you need to understand precisely what they believe. I call myself an anarchist/socialist, which is really about anti-authoritarian socialism.
Obviously, some people just use it as a posh way of saying "thug".
