It is a two-part problem.

1) The AI scraping bots eat resources like a rich kid in a candy store.

2) The software being used is not optimized.

You can control one of these issues, and you can only manage the other. Together, they make up the whole problem.

When it comes to the automated crawlers scouring the web, you don't hold the keys to their architecture. You can't stop aggressive scrapers from hammering your servers, because external actors ultimately dictate that traffic. Your only play there is defensive management — implementing rate limits, setting up bot mitigation, and bracing for the constant drain on your bandwidth.

On the flip side, your own codebase is entirely your domain. Leaving software un-optimized while external bots are already bleeding your system dry is like leaving your front door wide open during a neighborhood burglary. Fixing inefficient queries, streamlining your back-end, and tightening up your code won't stop the bots from showing up, but it ensures that when they do, they aren't eating up ten times the resources they rightfully should.
