#ScribesAndMakers 8/22: Fantasy stories are frequently inspired by medieval societies. Why do you think people are fascinated by that time period?
Medieval societies will always be interesting to readers and writers. The intricacies are never-ending. Stories within the genre are also really fun to write (despite how depressing, dark, terrifying, and heartbreaking they can be as well). More than that, we also have so many legends to look back on. Lord, legends, etc. Mythology is a fascinating topic.
But there's more to it than that, I think. That's just the simple answer. We love the *idea* of magic or dragons as well, even if they didn't or don't exist in different tales. It isn't just about swords, fighting, wars, etc. That time period was so foreign and wildly different to what we know, especially if you're American. It will always interest individuals.
Fantasy will always be one of my favorite genres.
