One issue I have with the "AI is just a tool" excuse is that it's just not true.
Would you say an airline is a tool? Probably not. It's obviously a service where labor is performed and materials and energy are consumed, and that you don't control at all.
Generative "AI" just abstracts those material aspects away to the point that they are hard to recognize. But ultimately it's the same.
